Ubud is referred to as the cultural and art centre of Bali with many outlying artist villages such as Penestanan and Mas being included under the Ubud accommodations “hat”. From prestigious luxury retreat resorts, to cultural hotels, to boutique villas to backpacker and low budget inns, Ubud has them all. Some of the most notable private vacation rentals can be found along the river valleys that go through or just aside of Ubud, especially around Sayan and Campuhan. Rice paddy view lodgings are also a firm favorite amongst Ubud devotees, while the younger generation loves the Monkey Forest and Hanoman Road areas which team with bars, cafes, restaurants and art shops. Traditional cultural Balinese dance performances are performed at several locations near the central market virtually every night, a short walk from most hotels in Ubud.
